The 5-day ACHEMA 2012 exhibition congress for the chemical engineering, environmental protection, and biotechnology process industries (Frankfurt, Germany) concluded on June 22, after 167,000 participants learned about a broad range of products and services presented by 3,773 exhibitors on a 136,400 m² exhibition area with a very well received new layout of halls.

Popular exhibition groups included Pumps, Compressors, Valves and Fittings, Instrumentation, Control and Automation Techniques, Laboratory and Analytical Techniques, "Thermal, "Mechanical Processes, and Pharmaceutical, Packaging and Storage Techniques. In all fields, particular attention was devoted to the major themes of energy and bio-economics.

With a proportion of foreign exhibitors of almost 50%, coming from 56 countries, the ACHEMA was more international than ever before, reflecting that in these highly globalised industries ACHEMA is a leading event. “Globalisation does not just mean Europeans and Americans going to Asia – increasingly, Asian exhibitors and visitors are coming to Europe," noted Dr. Thomas Scheuring, CEO of DECHEMA Ausstellungs-GmbH. This was also evident in that more than 200 Chinese and 150 Indian companies presented their ranges. Still, numerous European and US companies once again also used the opportunity to present their innovations.

The congress included 900 talks and numerous events of various types. Aspects expected to occupy the process industry in the coming future included energy generation and storage, and biomass processing. Talks on materials science, bionics, and chemistry parks also met with a great response. "We made the right selection of focus topics," said Prof. Dr. Kurt Wagemann, Executive Director of DECHEMA e.V.

Exhibitors and visitors expressed high satisfaction. "It was a very successful show for us; considerably better than in 2009, even better than 2006 before the crisis happened,” said Friedbert Klefenz, Bosch Packaging Technology. Karsten Just of Bartec Holding noted, "More noticeable than the numbers is the fact that the quality of the visitors was very high." And according to the results of the visitor survey, more than 83% of the visitors judged the quality of the ACHEMA as "good“ or "very good“.

The 31st ACHEMA will take place starting June 15, 2015, in Frankfurt and the 9th AchemAsia on May 13-16, 2013, in Beijing (China).
